Summa Summa Summa Time at Rawbry

It's been awhile, but with my summertime drink series, I figured I had to come down to Rawbry since I hadn't tried one of their smoothies yet.

I went before a rehearsal to Malvolio, which was co-written by local playwright Rachel Lopez.  Rachel actually bought this drink for me, so thank you so much!

Because I'm not really down for bananas in anything, and because of it being the dead of Summer, I chose the "Summa Summa Summa Time" which had almost every berry you can think of, Bee Pollen (?!?), Honey and Coconut Water.

It was super tasty and if someone shoved one my way I wouldn't hesitate to drink it.  Because it is Rawbry, I'm sure that it is made with all the best ingredient.  In fact, the cashier was very happy we liked it, because it was her recipe.

At the end of the day though, it tasted the same as something I would get at Java or Keva Juice.  Don't get me wrong, I like those...but there is more smoothie for the price.

Hot Toddy at Red Rock Bar

Although Bourbon is usually used, Red Rock gave me a Whiskey Hot Toddy a few months ago.  The snow was just over Mt. Rose and headed our way, and that bite was in the air.  We were at the bar and I just couldn't bring myself to have a cold drink and go back out there.

I'd never had a hot toddy before, but my friend insisted that I'd like it, and that it was made with local honey, which would be in one of my rules for the official state drink!  I was excited for my prospects before I took my first sip.

I'm not gonna lie, this is not my kind of drink.  It just tasted like hot Whiskey.  I didn't taste the lemon I clearly saw in there, I didn't taste any honey, and I had to constantly sir it so I didn't get a mouthful of....spice?  Nutmeg?  Something floating in it.

As I continued to muscle my way through it, I found the hot was really warming me up, and the whiskey was rather nice.  By the time I finished, it made me warm and drunk enough that I liked it.  Once I sobered up though, I knew it was a drink I'd never order again, unless I moved to Alaska.

A Mule Named Honey @ChapelTavern

I've wanted to go to Chapel for a really long time now.  Maybe too long, because I built it up a little too much in my head.  I was happy that they had a menu of craft cocktails that seemed varied, but pricey at $10 a drink.  My throat was feeling a little icky, so I decided some honey might do it some good.  Your (should be) pick for the Best of Reno's stand up comedian Amanda Alvey and I have been on a mule-kick as of late.  No pun intended (Mule, kick...get it?  No?  Well okay then.)

She and I usually get something different so we can get a taste of two different kinds of drinks, but that night we both got the Mule Named Honey. 

In the end, it didn't have enough honey to make my throat feel better, but it did taste a little like cold medication, so there's that.  I actually tried someone elses drink and it tasted the same, just a different flavor of cold medication.  Later someone said that it's always sort of been that way there, which is why it took so long for everyone to go out to it again.

Despite that, the space is nice, and it has a pool table you can see in the picture, which I'm always down to play.  If a place has pool or bocce ball I'm down to stay for awhile.  Horseshoes, not so much.  I digress, the staff seemed friendly and the patio was cute, although the whole place felt a little small.  Unless I start making way more money, I don't think I'll be back to Chapel anytime soon, although I still had a good time.

Bee's Knees @1864Tavern

Yes, this is my third drink at 1864 I've reviewed.  It really is my favorite place to drink.  If KJ from Z Bar worked there I wouldn't drink anywhere else again.

Not that the bartenders aren't super awesome at 1864, they are.  While I was there with Stand Up Comedian/BFF Amanda Alvey, she told me that he was in a conversation with some other patrons saying "Caaampo or Campo? Is the food good? Then who cares??"

In fact, I actually did a stupid thing and went to the bathroom instead of writing down what was in my Bee's Knees.  Since the drink isn't listed on their online menu, I sent them a tweet asking, but it looks like they don't check it that often so I ended up sending them an email to ask. Awesomely they answered right away, and the post was saved!

Shawn emailed "The "Bee's Knees" is a classic cocktail that dates back to prohibition. It consists of Gin, Honey, and Fresh Lemon Juice.  (2oz, 3/4oz, 3/4oz ratio). Sometimes, at the customers/bartenders preference, we will sometimes substitute Elderflower water for the honey.  It gives it a slightly different sweetness, but still super good."

It was a little thin but sweet. I love that it had crushed ice, almost as much as I love their old school square cubes.  I just love a bar with different kinds of ice. It came with an elegant lemon peel garnish, so no eating for me again.

In the end it wasn't my cup of tea, but I'll always come back to 1864 Tavern.
